Affordable housing project given the go-ahead by ULDA
Courier Mail 26/12/2008

THE Urban Land Development Authority has given the go-ahead for a new residential subdivision that will deliver more than 250 homes on a government-owned parcel of land at the northern Brisbane suburb of Fitzgibbon.
It is hoped the first homes at the Telegraph Road site will be under construction within four months of the Fitzgibbon Urban Development Area being declared.
ULDA head Paul Eagles said it was a great result as it showed the organisation was doing exactly what it was established to do, cutting through red tape and speeding up development.
Once complete it is expected the new housing estate will have up to 268 homes which could house about 600 people.
The approval is for an 18ha site which would have a mix of detached homes, and small apartment blocks.
Mr Eagles said the estate would provide affordable housing because of the different size lots and type of housing offered. He said Fonzie-style flats such as a unit over a garage would be priced in the low 200,000s while most homes would be $350,000 to $380,000.
Ausbuild, Aushomes and AV Jennings were selected from 20 submissions for the project.
